There are two kinds of weight—natural and unnatural. Natural weight will fluctuate throughout life with seasonal transitions, as a response to stress and with inconsistent exercise and nutrition. Unnatural weight is the weight that accumulates over time and no matter what you do to try to lose it, it won’t budge. This is the weight that is so much more complex than calories in, calories out; what you should eat, what you shouldn’t eat. This is the weight that holds opportunity for growth.
Unnatural weight, which I will now refer to as Purposeful Weight, is a symptom of something bigger going on in our lives. This weight holds a message. There is a reason for it being there. It is trying to teach us something, reveal to us a life lesson. Once you embrace that and you reveal the lesson your weight is trying to teach you, it is only then that you can work on letting it go.
This message will be unique to each individual. It is your destined message that is trying to get your attention. This weight or symptom that is trying to get your attention can often be about emotional holding, protection from being hurt, undigested or unresolved life experiences, not claiming who you are or what your purpose is, being unfulfilled, lack of creation, perfectionism or needing to lighten up and let go of self-chosen stresses.
It is so important that we stop chasing weight with punishing diets and exercise regimens that are unnatural, unmaintainable and unenjoyable. If that approach actually worked why are there millions of books on the topic and yet people are getting bigger and bigger? Purposeful Weight won’t be shed with the diet mentality approach. It needs a conscious approach, it needs our soul’s attention. It is the universe’s way of pushing you up to explore where your life is out of balance, or where life is calling you to grow. When your soul comes into alignment, your body comes into alignment.
Purposeful Weight is a doorway to your soul. Embrace this weight by going through the doorway. What is the message your weight is holding for you? If your weight had a purpose, a teaching, what would it be? I encourage you to explore this and embrace what your journey has to offer.
